​Walker T. Norman

Walker T. Norman was born September 19, 1954 in Lincoln County, Georgia, the son of the late James A. and Edith Remsen Norman. Mr. Norman is married to the former Carol Tankersley of Columbia County, GA and they are the parents of James Blanchard Norman. Blanchard and his wife, the former Emily Martin, have one son, John Walker Norman.

Mr. Norman attended Lincoln County Schools, Augusta College and Reinhardt College in Waleska, Georgia. He completed several different courses in government and leadership from the Carl Vinson Institute of Government at the University of Georgia.

Chairman Norman started his political career at the early age of 18, while a Senior in High School, as a member of the Lincolnton City Council in 1972. He held that position until 1980, at which time he was elected Chairman of the Lincoln County Board of Commissioners and took office January 1981, serving for sixteen years until 1996, and serving again from January 2001 until December 2008. Mr. Norman ran for Chairman of the Lincoln County Board of Commissioners again in 2016 and was once again elected, taking office in January 2017 for a four year term.

Mr. Norman has served on the Board of Managers and Executive Committee of the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia. He was appointed by Governor Joe Frank Harris to serve as Chairman of the Governor’s Advisory Council on Rural Development. He has served as Chairman of the CSRA Regional Development Commission, Chairman of the East Central Georgia Job Training Consortium, Georgia/Carolina Council of the Boy Scouts of America, Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training Council, and also on the University of Georgia College of Agriculture Environmental Sciences as well as other local, regional and state committees and boards.
